January 12, 2011

That's the date we arrived home to zero degree temperature. I phoned my mom to turn up the heat in our condo so that we can return to a warm home. It took us about 10 days to work off the jetlag.

During the first week, we are already seeing our friends here, for meals of course. :-)

It is hard to get all my friends together to have a picture like this.
But this trip to the Dragon countries is all about friends.
Everyday, we are meeting someone-a friend or two for lunch, coffee and dinner.
We had little free time to ourselves as in Canada.
We were ssssssssooooooooooooooooo busy. In fact, we can qualify as Hong Kong person.

There are many places we haven't visit, the islands, Tai-O, Saigon, most part of New Territory.
I didn't even have time to visit my China friends in Canton.
So, we shall be back to Hong Kong one day to our friends again.

Till then, take care and don't forget to have fun.

Restaurante Fernando

They open at noon. We walked from our Westin Hotel
via the Black Sand beach and were 15 minutes early.

While we were waiting, Adriana made a friend.

We browsed around next door grocery store which has been there longer than the Restaurante Fernando.

Can't wait to get in. We were hungry, and thirsty.

We were in, walking thru the corridor of paper currencies.

Sampling the Portugese bun, Portugese beer.

I ordered the roast pig - crispy skin with tender meat.

The other dish Adriana ordered was Bacalhau with scrambled eggs.
The salted cod fish is low quality, a far cry from those tender one at Restaurante Espaço Lisboa.

Overall, this restaurant is very popular. Prices are resonable.
The quality of their food is not as good as Restaurante Espaço Lisboa.
I like their Portugese buns and my roast pig.

For dessert, I went next door for a bottle of hot Vitasoy「麥精維他奶」.

We walked back to our hotel, about 15 minutes. Got on the shuttle and head home to Hong Kong.
We didn't do much in Macau. We walked around downtown.
We didn't step in any casino.
We enjoyed our relaxed time in Macau.

Restaurante Espaço Lisboa

A top end Portugese restaurant in Coloane village, Macau

After weeks of Asian food, Adriana is waiting for her traditional Portugese food.

Bread, marinated olives, Lobster Bisque, and Bolinho de Bacalhau.

Bacalhau com Todos: Boiled Salted cod fish; very good quality.

African chicken: Coconut coated chicken simmered in a spicy sauce; kind of greasy.

Now she is satisfied as a Brazilian should!

The bill came to $500, a bit expensive but truly a good quality traditional Portugese cuisine.

An aftermeal stroll just outside of the restaurant

I was in Macau.

And we ran into a bakery where Portugese tart was originated.

Oh, yes. We had to try one. $9 each. It has a flaky skin
and the egg filling tastes just right-not too sweet.

Waiting for bus to go into town.

Money, Food & Sex

Men are simple. Besides money, all they want is food and sex.
As they grow older, it becomes even simpler.
All they want and can have is food.
Sex? They dream about it.

There are sooooooooooooooo many eating places in Hong Kong.
I am not even counting the ones in China.
But not all eateries are good.

Here are a few of my favorite joints.

My favorite items are Dry Curry Shrimps and Calf's Liver.

Very resonable priced and decent food.

銅鑼灣禮頓道93-95號地面及1樓
Delicious food, delicate and nice. Very impressive!

The best Chiu Chow food I have ever tasted in Hong Kong.
Call owner Ah Dee to pre-order their specialties.
Valet Parking, one of the two in Kowloon City.

One of the famous Wonton Noodle shops in Hong Kong.

There are simply too many restaurants we tried.
A few of the Shanghainese restaurants were disappointing.
You will have to come here. I'll take you there.

OpenRice is a good website for restaurants in Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen.

Men Can Cook Part Two "Eastern"

Occasional Chef Tom is proud of his ham from Shanghai.

Spy shot number 1: I had to sneak near the kitchen window in the backyard.

Spy shot number 2: Goose Liver Sausage, regular pork sausage and mystery tofu skin.

Spy shot 3: Ah, he is not alone!

Spy shot number 4: Chicken broth is boiling. Shanghainese smoked fish looks warm

The guests are waiting.

The table is waiting.

I am waiting.

Finally, the cold appetizers.

The hot appetizers.

Chiu Chow cold fish.

Soup made with 金華火腿 Jinhua ham and chicken

More food ..............

The dessert was black sesame tong yuen (dumpling).

This is the real McCoy.

The meal was wonderful.
I have a picture to prove it.

Here is another proof.

Some men can cook.
